Graduation

Preparing to graduate? When it's time to celebrate your academic achievements, the information below should provide you with everything you need to know about applying for and preparing for graduation. See the Graduation requirements, Graduation events and the Graduation fees below.

Students intending to receive any degree, diploma or certificate will need to fill out the Graduation Application form prior to the deadline for their desired conferral date.

  • Fall Conferral: This form must be submitted before September 15 for Fall (December) Conferral
  • Winter Conferral: This form must be submitted before January 15 for Winter (April) Conferral

Graduation applications submitted after the application deadline cannot be considered for graduation at that conferral.

Graduation Fees

Please take note of the following graduation fees and which apply to you. All grad fees are billed once the Registrar's Office has done their initial review of your record and determined that you are on track to graduate on your desired conferral date. If the Registrar's Office finds that you have any outstanding requirements, they will inform you and will not bill you the grad fees (you would then need to re-apply for graduation once the requirements are met).

Graduation Requirements

Degrees are granted to students who have satisfactorily completed a particular program of study as set forth in the Academic Catalogue and who have met all their financial obligations to the school.

Any courses and/or outstanding Field Service (UC only) requirements that are in progress with an end date after your graduation date must be completed by the following April 30th for Fall Conferral Graduates and August 31st for Winter Conferral Graduates. If requirements are not met in that timeframe, you will need to reapply for graduation once they are met (graduation fees will not be refunded, and you will need to pay them again when you re-apply).

Seminary Graduation Requirements

Applicants for graduation are considered by the Faculty Senate which recommends them to the Board of Governors based on scholastic achievement. Students with a 3.75 cumulative GPA are recommended to graduate with honours. The Faculty Senate recognizes that particular ministries require certain gifts, character traits and levels of maturity beyond what can be gained in a short time at Seminary. Therefore, the Senate’s recommendation to the Board implies only that the student has adequately fulfilled course requirements in terms of skills and knowledge, not that they are now qualified for a particular ministry. Members of the Faculty are available to give ministry references for individual students. Applications for graduation submitted after the February board meeting cannot be considered for graduation in that year. Attendance at the commencement ceremony is required of all graduates unless application is made and special permission is granted to graduate in absentia.

 University College Graduation Requirements

Attendance at the commencement ceremony is required of all graduates unless application is made and special permission is granted to graduate in absentia. The graduation class is approved by the Board of Governors upon the recommendation of the Senate. In the programs of study at Providence certain requirements are made of each prospective graduate. They are as follows:

    1. Candidates for graduation are expected to maintain a satisfactory level of proficiency in their oral and written use of the English language.
    2. Each student is expected to satisfactorily complete Field Service units as specified in Academic Regulations for Bachelor Degrees.
    3. All financial obligations to Providence are to be satisfactorily settled before a student will be granted the graduation certificate. In the event that a satisfactory settlement is not reached, the student will be permitted to participate in the graduation ceremony, but the certificate or degree will not be conferred until all financial obligations are settled.
    4. At least 30 credit hours of study must be completed at Providence for graduation. For all graduating students, 15 of the last 30 hours toward a degree must be completed at Providence University College.
    5. Students must have satisfactorily completed all the academic requirements in their programs* and have attained an accumulated grade point average of at least 2.00 to receive any certificate, diploma, or degree.
