Wraparound Care Policy

The purpose of the wraparound care model is to provide holistic care for all students to help them achieve success in their time at Providence. All University College undergraduate students in Otterburne will be assigned an Academic Advisor and a Campus Life Director. These two staff members will form the base of the wrapround care team, working together to ensure each student is receiving the support they need to achieve their goals. Other members may be added to the team as necessary, including (but not limited to) coaches, faculty advisors, counsellors, elders, etc.

In cases where students need significant additional support, meetings will be held that include all members of the wraparound care team, including the student. This group will create a plan of support together.

Wraparound care teams will generally operate with open communication about each student’s needs, unless the student has asked for confidentiality. The nature of some issues may require confidentiality (e.g., sexual violence). A counsellor on the team will exercise their professional discretion in determining which information they will share with the team in developing a plan of support.

Please note that confidentiality cannot be assured in the following circumstances:

  1. An individual is at imminent risk of self-harm;
  2. An individual is at imminent risk of harming another;
  3. There are reasonable grounds to believe that others in the Providence Community or elsewhere may be at risk of harm;
  4. When the situation involves the abuse of a minor, in which case, reports must be made to external agencies, and/or
  5. When Providence is ordered by a court to release confidential or privileged information.
